Abstract This study is to prove the importance of aesthetical symbols used on the outside place as a planning factor of Church Architecture. The questionnaire about symbols used in outside place were given to architects, and users of selected churches. It is assumed that aesthetical symbols can positively influence the growth of faith to the users. The other purpose is to show the planning direction of how to apply aesthetical symbols properly into Church Architecture to encourage users' cognition. The architects' and religious workers' importance value of aesthetical symbols and analysis and characteristics of the users' cognition about aesthetical symbols were researched. The result of this study is that when aesthetical symbols are used on outside place of Church Architecture, the users showed different cognition on each symbol by following factors - symbol factors, the space where symbol is used, the design elements in Architecture, design principles in Architecture, design techniques in Architecture, and the way of presentation.
