Abstract This research is intended to propose the design method of the diversification of unit plan for collective housing. Collective housing is growing in conjunction with mixed residential building rather than detached house and town house in Korea. The unit plan, however, is repeated under the typical pattern of housing form and layout without considering site and regional characteristics, so it is needed to diversify a kind of routine pattern at this time. Internationale Bauausstellung Berlin is suitable for this issue from the fact that various unit plans and building forms are proposed by prominent architects within the limits of a traditional street and block system. Moreover, New IBA, including Southern Friedrichstadt and Southern Tiergarten, is more proper to study in that it promotes old residential area to the inner city as a place live pursuing urban regeneration for the future residential culture. It is the point of analysis that unit plan type, composition and combination between units, relation with units and public space, continuity between units and openspace, and building form. It will be able to offer the design elements and direction for diversification through this research process.
