Abstract This study analyzes a decision making system and information types of an architectural programming as a design condition setting process of public libraries. This study suggests an outcome as follows.First, information factors, used in the architectural programming of public libraries, are divided into 6 information type by their utilization purpose, and which are composed of management by object, service program, site program, business program, function program and space program. Second, to define the architectural programming process, three sub-phases are developed: the objective establishment phase to examine the necessity, position and role of the planned library, the basic conception phase to plan the location, business programs, service level and its scale, the pre-design phase to establish the architectural and technical design guidelines specifically. Each phase, which has the linear sub-steps, are processed in sequential order, and the information types in the preceding step are utilized as inputs of the next step. Lastly, decision making system in architectural programming of public libraries (see figure 1) improves upon the frameworks of previous theorists. It divides all processes into information-typed components based on the linear framework, and support to add or modify the components so as to make the output feedback possible.Sometimes, architectural programming of public libraries is performed with not only fixed but also flexible sequence. But in conclusion, it is more effective, for the database and its reusability, to follow the formal framework as this study suggests.
