Abstract This study investigates the engineering properties of concrete designed with diverse cement blaine values manufactured by a particle size classifying method in the pulverizing process. Test showed that the specimens using the lower blaine value of cement, such as coarse particle cement (C) and ordinary+coarse particle cement (OC), increased the fluidity of fresh concrete, while a specimen using the highest blaine value of fine cement (F) exhibited the lowest value. After mixing the concrete, the fluidity of all specimens dramatically decreased until 30 minutes elapse and then gradually decreased in 60 minutes. For the setting time, the specimen, F, accelerated initial and final setting time and the next fastest setting time was indicated at FC, OF, O, OC and C in an order. For the compressive strength properties, the value of the specimen using coarse particle size cement at the age of 1 day was similar to that of the specimen, O, at 3 days. Importantly, the specimen, F, exhibited similar strength value in both -5℃and 20℃ of curing temperature, which demonstrated that this F specimen can secure the strength in even lower temperature. Therefore it is thought that concrete using O+F simultaneously can protect the early frost damage and secure the early strength development at cold weather concreting.
