Abstract As concerns on traditional materials as a solution of environmental problems have been enhanced, earth building made of pro-environment materials has received attention as a typical pro-environment building that environment and life can coexist with harmony. But, existing earth buildings have emphasized efficiency and functions extremely and practical researches from the side of their designs are poor. Therefore, this study examines Visual image evaluation structures of earth building components which are applied to actual earth building site and aims to provide basic materials available in future earth building design. This study uses digital photo data of 7 earth building components photographed at actual earth building sites as experimental stimulation, conducts experiment for SD evaluation through questionnaire and statistical analysis. Results of this study can be summarized as follows.Visual Image evaluation of the whole earth building components by subjects was very affirmative, but it is found that there is a unique image evaluation structure depending on individual building methods. Difference in groups by attributes of subjects was significant and those in building practice showed the most affirmative evaluation, followed by architectural students and general public and those who have experience in earth building have more affirmative evaluation than those who have no experience of earth building. Image evaluation factors of earth building components are three including aesthetics, variety and traditionality. But, since this study has limitations in that it is confined to research on image trend and evaluation factors of earth building components not to present building plan and design alternatives which can activate earth building components in modern building, it is considered that further researches related to these should be conducted.
