Abstract An unstiffened top and seat angle connection is considered as one of the commonly used semi-rigid connections. According to the variations of initial stiffness and ultimate connection moment capacity, the unstiffened top and seat angle connection represents various connection behaviors. Considering these characteristic connection behaviors, structural engineers should recognize some influential parameters on the initial stiffness as well as the ultimate moment capacity. Therefore, the authors performed an analytical study to provide some valuable information such as the initial selection of an angle specimen and the calculation of the initial stiffness. The existing initial stiffness models were used to calculate the initial stiffness for the selected angle specimens. In addition, the authors suggested an analytical model to improve the existing initial stiffness models in this study.
