Abstract |
The objective of the study is to reveal how visitors' behavior is affected by the spatial structure of the gallery layouts. To this end, the tracking movement analysis has been executed in three art museums by random-sampling 90 visitors respectively and tracking them. The result of analysis as follows; 1) The convex integration value does not affect the tracking score that indicates the number of visitors in a space. 2) The convex connectivity value does not affect the tracking score. 3) The convex integration value does affect the tracking frequency that indicates the number of visiting in a space. and 4) The convex connectivity value exhibits consistent co-relation with the tracking frequency. To sum, the spatial structure of art gallery appears to be an important factor that strongly influences the tracking frequency, not the tracking score. In other words, the general behavior of visitors in an art museum could be more efficiently understood by their browsing frequency rather than their density in particular convex spaces. This result shows that the convex integration and connectivity, which has been a crucial index for the anticipation of visitors‘ behavior, could be a useful device for design evaluation that enhances the unobstructed flow of visitors in a art gallery space without counting on direction signs. |
