Abstract |
In this study the buckling-restrained braces composed of a steel plate as a load-resisting core member and two channel sections to restrain local and global buckling of the core plate were developed and their performance under cyclic load was investigated. Both the core plates and the channel sections were made of SS400 steel. The braces were installed in a pin-connected frame as diagonal braces, and the frame was enforced horizontally by an actuator with the loading protocol recommended by the AISC Seismic Provisions. The test results showed that the buckling-restrained braces designed to satisfy the strength requirement for gusset plate behaved stably under both tension and compression until the maximum displacement exceeded twice the design drift limit. |
