Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the seismic and the collapse-resistant performance of beam-column connections in mid/low-rise steel buildings. Two identical connection test specimens were fabricated using H-400×200×8×13(SS400) beams and H-300×300×10×15(SS400) columns. The beam web was connected to the column flange by bolting and the beam flanges were CJP welded to the column flange. Specimen SP1 was loaded by monotonically increasing displacement to investigate the collapse resistance of the connection, while Specimen SP2 was loaded by AISC cyclic displacement protocol for the seismic resistance of the connection. Both specimens were failed by fracture in the beam flange CJP weld at story drifts of 9.2 % for Specimen SP1 and 3.4% for Specimen SP2, respectively. While, the amount of dissipated energy of Specimen SP1 loaded monotonically was smaller than that of Specimen SP2 loaded cyclically. The maximum drift angle achieved in the monotonic test exceeded the GSA criteria for WUF connections.
