| Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the contents of established or partly pursued downtown revitalization in sustainability and to suggest the future direction of downtown planning for the balanced urban development. This paper is composed of four main parts. In the first part as a theoretical review, the concept of the balanced urban development and the way of the downtown revitalization are reviewed in general. The second part studies the balanced urban development with reference to the urban spatial structure, landuse planning and development density of Daejeon Metropolitan City which, with a population of 1.45 million, is Korea's fifth largest city. Subsequently, the already established approaches to downtown revitalization in Daejeon city are analysed. The last part arranges the considerable subject for the sustainable downtown revitalization for the balanced urban development through the synthesis of the analysis. |
