Abstract A proper selection of formwork greatly affects project profitability in many ways in tall building construction. The current selection process of formwork, however, has not been consistent, and has depended on the decisions of few experienced engineers. Therefore, this study established a model of formwork selection, which presents the selection criteria and procedure. This model uses a decision tree analysis to provide easy understanding of the relation between factors and the selection process. In this study, we used the historical data, guaranteed to be accurate and reliable, of 61 projects of cast-in-placed reinforced concrete structures above 30-stories. Decision tree analysis was performed for the slab and exterior wall formwork, and the number of stories, cycling time of a typical floor, and structure type were used as independent variables. The decision support model for formwork selection was constructed based on the results of the decision tree analysis, and it proposed the number of sites applied formwork and the rates of application by each split criterion. This proposed model is expected to facilitate the easy and reasonable selection of formwork.
