| Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to analyze the space disposition of the private external space in German multi-family housing according the four categories: balconies, loggias, terraces and verandas. To achive the results I analysed the definition and the four categories of the private external space and analogied of space construction forms from the etymology of the each word, and then studied their dispositions forms in multi-family housing type. The private external space as artificial exterior space is an architectural space with its spatial enclosure elements and its private use. 'Freisitz' is the German term for the private external space which is composed of 'Frei' and 'Sitz'. Both are combined to the meanings of 'the exterior space of Sitting'. According to these characteristics the space of balcony, loggia, terrace and veranda become as the four categories of the private external space. As the results of this study it could find out that the four categories are developed from the different etymological meanings of their own word, as 'beam', 'loge', 'stocking earth' and 'balconies'. These different etymological meanings lead to the different forms of space construction. Finally it could be find out that to dispose the space of these four categories in both multi-storey housing type and terraced housing type, the principles of 'Addition', 'Subtraction' and 'Set-back' and the sub-principles like 'juxtaposition', 'intersection', 'whole-surfaced' and 'partly- surfaced' are used. |
