Abstract When reinforced concrete is subjected to high temperature as in fire, there is deterioration in its properties such as loss in compressive strength, cracking and spalling of concrete, destruction of the bond. Therefore, to predict the exposed temperature is particularly important in order to evaluate the deterioration in damaged reinforced concrete. The objective of this study is to investigate the thermal properties and the heat transfer using a computer model which, based finite difference approach, predict the temperature distribution history in reinforced concrete subjected to fire conditions. A one-dimensional numerical model to calculate the temperatures of concrete subjected to high temperatures presented. For the purpose of use in the numerical model, the thermal properties of concrete, expressed as function of temperature, were investigated. Predictions from the numerical model are compared with experimental data. The results indicate that the model is capable of predicting the temperatures distribution of concrete and the thermal properties and water contents in concrete is considered properly in heat transfer analysis
