Abstract The high-rise living style is one of the symbols of city-life pattern in our modern society. Living style in Korea has been changed rapidly from low-rise to high-rise during the last several decades of industrialization with national issues for economy and other social changes with globalization and rapid westernization in life style. Korea specially near Seoul has experienced serious housing problems with excessive rural-to-urban migration. It quantitatively resulted rapid housing demands in limited land resources and inevitably resulted multi-story residence development. This habitat called apartment has become typical living quarter of city life based on modern society with globalization and westernization. Turning into the 21st century, such a mechanism becomes no longer effective and there are demands for the diversification of residential style and amenity of urban housing. The high-rise residence has been lead with residential complex and height competitions in Metropolitan Seoul. The objective is to comparative analysis energy and CO2 variations according to high-rise residential buildings in Metropolis Seoul area. For archive this goal, This study used eQUEST program. The eQUEST energy simulating program based on DOE-2.2 was used for this comparative analysis study of the energy use in modeled buildings based on architectural design variables and different building forms in one climatic condition. The results are statistically analyzed and presented in functional architectural form decision-making tables and charts. As a result of the comparison of architectural design consideration for high-rise residential buildings in relation to regional climates, buildings physically need less energy consumption when the architecture is concerned with the regional climate and it produces a more reasonable design methodology. Therefore, this architectural design language approach must be a starting point to sustaining long-term planning based on ecological concept.
