Abstract |
VOC emission rates from building materials and indoor concentrations are influenced by temperature. It is necessary to predict VOC emissions at different temperature conditions and take appropriate measures to meet the VOC concentration guidelines under different seasonal and heating condition. The purpose of this study was to analyze VOC emission from building materials and indoor air quality according to outdoor temperatures and heating conditions. Heat and mass transfer theory was applied to modeling of VOC emission in a housing unit with the heating system. Material temperatures, emission rates, and indoor concentrations were predicted by numerical simulations. It was found that the peak level in indoor VOC concentration would be a serious problem to occupants in new apartment buildings during heating period. Based on the predicted VOC concentration and emission characteristics, several mitigation strategies were developed. |
