Abstract As applying the BTL method to constructing school building from 2005, the existing schools face the growing challenge of maintaining the nation's education facilities. A sound facilities maintenance plan and appropriate budget help to ensure that school facilities are good for student and teacher's demand, but negligent planning and lack of budget can result in real problems. This study aims to examine the maintenance & operations(M&O) cost of elementary, middle and high school facilities. It surveys M&O expenditure in 2006 of 982 schools in Gyunggi-do, which is asked to document various M&O costs, including workers, gas, electricity, utilities, maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies, outside contract cost and other costs. While median school expenditures per school is 467,171,000won, median spending for facilities per school is 5,001,000won. While the cost per student of school expenditures is 1,014,000won, the cost per student total M&O is 133,000won. These all of the M&O costs are less than those of american schools and BTL schools.
