Abstract The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of personal and environmental attributes on residential satisfaction and to suggest an alternative evaluation methodology with new items and analysis methods. At first, for these purposes, this study classified evaluation items into objective and subjective aspects, on both physical and social levels, and analyzed the relationship between residential satisfaction and major factors. Then, this research compared the results obtained from the existing evaluation methods with that of the alternative. The findings were as follows. First, findings of influence analysis of environmental attributes on residential satisfaction included balcony size, house deterioration and number of bedroom had significant influence on residential satisfaction. Second, findings of influence analysis of personal characteristics included age of the head of a family, change of house type, family life-cycle and number of bedroom per person gave large impact on residential satisfaction. Number of bedroom per person was identified as the main factor of satisfaction on physical aspects of residential environment. Third, findings of influence analysis of environmental factors by residents' response included qualitative aspect of indoors, size of house and convenience of dining room were major factors of satisfaction on physical aspects of residential environment affecting in order. and economic value of house and privacy were the main factors of satisfaction on social aspects of residential environment.
