Abstract |
The objective of this research is to provide applicable flexural test results to actual strengthening design by checking the flexural capacities of RC beams strengthened with unbonded high-strength bars. The advantages of a proposed strengthening method consist in speed and simplicity of installation. Also, it is possible to acquire regular strengthening performance without skilled workers. A set of ten laboratory tests on RC beams strengthened with high-strength bars and unstrengthened RC beams as control group is reported. The main test parameters are the diameter of high-strength bar and the ratio of tension reinforcement. The equivalent tension reinforcement ratio which contains the strength ratio of high-tension bars respect to that of re-bar is also considered. Test result shows that the maximum strain of high-strength bars pretensioned with 40% of yield strain exceeds the nominal yield strain of high-strength bar. The deflection ratios of reinforced beams with high-strength bars were less than 54% compared that of serviceability limit. It is possible to simplify the design equation using the equivalent tension reinforcement ratio. |
