Abstract |
With life expectancy rising and birthrates plumbing record lows, Korea is about to undergo a stunning demographic transformation. According to the latest government projections, 38 percent will be elderly by 2050. A growing problem is supporting elderly people who want to continue living independently as opposed to moving to an institutional care setting. Housing is being asked to perform an increasingly important role in the provision of health and social care to frail older people and the careful placement of technological support may help them to remain within their own homes rather than relocate to sheltered or residential care. The aim of this paper is to explore elderly needs on the design and technological innovations of aging-friendly digital home through small group workshop as a step of programming stage of design. After considering their housing needs, the ways of digital home service which make them maintain daily lives independently in their own homes were discussed. In conclusion, healthcare, leisure, social network supporting digital features are the keys for their aging-friendly digital home. |
