Abstract This study aims to find similarities and differences in the spatial configuration of Han-Ok and apartment using quantitative analysis method, and to explore the influences of the characteristics embedded within the spatial configuration of Han-Ok on the plans of apartment. For a quantitative comparison, we have adopted the "Inexact Graph Matching" theory, a method introduced by Dalton et al., that quantifies similarities between systems. In order to utilize the "Inexact Graph Matching" theory, we wrote a software called SIMPLAN. Dissimilarities are measured between all the pairs of unit plans in the pool which contains 400 Han-Ok and apartment unit plans using SIMPLAN. The proposed framework is a quantitative approach of classifying floor plans and analyzing the relationship of affinities between floor plans based on both syntactic(structural) and semantic(functional) properties of space. And also, the framework can be applied to large number of floor plans with many nodes in regard of computational availability as well as representational clarity.
