Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to clarify the behavioral characteristics and spatial use of care workers, and to analyze space use pattern of the elderly with dementia and the care workers at the common space of skilled care facilities in Japan. The subjects were 6 care works and 6 common spaces of the 2 skilled care facilities in Tokyo. Data were collected by observations and tracking survey of behavior of the care workers and spatial use of the elderly with dementia and the care workers at the common space, and recorded in the form of behavior map, and analyzed using the frequency, percentage, crosstabs, correlation analysis, paired t-test with SPSS 11 program. The results revealed as follows; First, 3 types(direct care activities, indirect care activities, rest activities) of care workers' activities were founded, and physical environmental characteristics affected residents' space usage. Second, it was perceived like as living oriented space, social interaction space, facility space, staff oriented space. Conclusively it was suggested to plan dining space as semi-private space, day corner as semi-public space. |
