Abstract |
Given considering that the essence of a city is a change and growth, the changes in urban spatial structure will need to be recognized as one historical process. And, the period division of the changes in the urban spatial structure is judged to be very important in the aspect of offering a frame that can systematically perceive the changes in the urban spatial structure. However, a research on the urban spatial structure so far has been limited to a comparative research between mutually different time points and to a research on a change by period. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to divide the changes in the urban spatial structure into period with the quantitative method targeting Ulsan Metropolitan City, the first and largest industrial city in Korea, which has never been attempted so far. As a result, the changes of urban spatial structure in Ulsan was available for being divided into totally 6 periods. Each period include ①1962-1965:'the period in transition', ②1966-1972:'concentration upon the urban center', ③1973-1977:'discontinuous concentration(differentiation) first', ④1978-1986:discontinuous concentration(differentiation) second' , ⑤1987-1994:'diffusion from the urban center', and ⑥1995-2005:'the initial stage of multi-nuclei according to concentration and diffusion' |
