Abstract |
The state examination system for strengthening the royal authority of Korea dynasty,made out new social organization, Zwazu(座主, teacher) and Munsaeng(門生, student). They continued the political relationship by holding various banquetin their home, like Eunmunyun(恩榮宴), Youngchinyun(榮親宴), Gupjaeyun(及第宴), and Dongupyun(同級宴). Specially the Eunmunyun and the Youngchinyun, held under the governmental permission, was the most honorable banquet, because the higher officials and some times the king visited. So the top seat for honored guests must be prepared, and the main hall Dang(堂) on the wide basement, it symbolize the dignity, was used for banquet space. The interior of Dang was decorated by silk curtain. The center of big table was decorated by artificial flower. The top seat faced the east, the other seats faced the south and north. In the time of the end of Korea and the beginning of Joseon dynasty, the chair called Hosang(胡床) and decorated by tortoiseshell, was used, or some times the guests visited with their own chairs. In the banquet for Zwazu and Munsaeng of the latter term of Korea dynasty, usually the orchestral music was performed at the courtyard. So the Dang on the basement, and the empty courtyard under the basement was important. |
