Abstract The purpose of this study is to discover the characteristics and the changes of the proportional system which is applied to the framed structure of the Korean wooden architecture. For this objective, 103 buildings with the Dapo-type or the Jusimpo-type structure were selected and analyzed. The result of this study could be described in detail like below. (1) There is a tendency that the unequal proportion is applied to the framed structure of the wooden building in Joseon Dynasty. This tendency became more clear in the latter period of Joseon Dynasty and then the unequal proportion is used in the 80% of the wooden buildings. (2) There is a tendency that the equal proportion changed into the unequal proportion gradually. This tendency is related with the transition of the age from Goryeo to Joseon Dynasty and the change of the framed structure from Jusimpo-type to Dapo-type. (3) It seems that the equal proportional system is classified into the Trisected Proportion and the Quartered Proportion at present. But judging from the fundamental structure and the scale of buildings, it is proper that the proportional system of Korean wooden architecture is only classified into the equal proportion and the unequal proportion.
