Abstract |
By considering research trends concerning the flow of elder's welfare policy in Japan, which is already experiencing an aging society, and has changed and developed certain characteristics of the living environment, this study has its purpose to offer basic data to be helpful for finding out the direction of the future of Korean elderly care facilities. The method of study consisted of only the Special Nursing Homes and Group Homes where resided elderly with dementia who mainly lived in facilities where data was published in researches of elderly welfare facility in the Journal of Architecture Planning Engineering of Japan from Jan, 1990 to Dec, 2006. And the number of examples of analysis was a total of 71. The result was classified by year, facilities, and keywords, and this study has its focus on the discussion of space planning elements requested within the living environment. As a summary of the characteristics of the living environment of elderlies with dementia: 1) Trend towards single rooms to provide for the privacy and personal space to the residents. 2) Provision of diversity and choice by the structural planning of level spaces. 3) Trend towards a small facility providing for a living base with a family atmosphere and nursing. 4) The creation of a strong relationship between the elderly nursing facility and the social community at large. |
