Abstract |
High strength concrete possess low permeability, high resistance to chemical attack, thermal resistance, and excellent freezing and thawing resistance. It has been argued and demonstrated experimentally that high-strength concrete undergoes autogenous shrinkage due to self-desiccation at early age under restrained condition. The major concern with regard to the autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete is the potential for cracking, and any subsequent adverse impact on concrete durability or serviceability. To minimize cracking due to autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete, construction practices, such as the use of expansive cement and admixtures, are recommended and used. One possible method to reduce cracking due to autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete is the addition of shrinkage reducing admixture. Many researches have shown the beneficial effects of addition of shrinkage reducing admixture. But, most of this researches is experimental study as yet. This paper presents a study of the reducing mechanism of autodgenous shrinkage using shrinkage reducing admixture. Also, proposed reducing mechanism of autodgenous shrinkage of high strength concrete using shrinkage reducing admixture provides satisfactory agreement with the experiment results |
