Abstract In analyzing and evaluating space images or suggesting new design images, the two-dimensional image scale is in wide use, in which each axis consists of two corresponding words. Although the applicability of the two-axis scale is good enough for the evaluation of color chips and color schemes, its words and ranges are somewhat unclear and inaccurate to deal with “spaces.” The purpose of this study is to deduce basic axes of image words scale for space design by categorizing space-evaluating adjectives and analyzing the correlation between evaluations and factors leading to such evaluations. The results of this study are presumed to serve both as a communication tool with universal validity that can be applied to future researches on environment, architecture and interior design and actual works and as an evaluation tool that has secured logical objectivity
