Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of architectural policy in promoting the publicness of architecture and takes as a case study the architectural policy of the Netherlands. For over ten years, the architectural climate in the Netherlands has been supported by an architectural policy which is the world's first government policy on architecture. By various policy instruments which has been investigated in this study such as ‘Chief Government Architect' who coordinates the commissions of public works of outstanding quality, numerous architecture centers, architecture promoting funds and institutions, the Netherlands has been able to not only advocate the publicness of architecture but also developed an architectural culture which is the envy of the world today. This study attempts to contribute to the framework of an architectural policy for Korea's tomorrow. |
