Abstract Different from other buildings, the Building Acts for apartments considers housing environment and is composed of very complicate system. In particular, the regulation about ensuring daylight for housing facilities is more strongly applied than other buildings. However, the arrangement of the buildings or unit plans are demanding various forms, while current regulation about daylight is being applied without changes. Therefore, the present regulation about daylight has limitations to build various types of towers. Also, even if these various types of towers are constructed, it might be a problem for these buildings to be unsuitable to the present regulations. This study aims to build application criteria for preserving proper daylight, to standardize terminology and, at the same time, to make unique and diverse types of towers be defined in the frame of regulations.
