Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the method of urban catalyst by urban catalytic projects in Milwaukee, U.S.A. The method of Catalyst is a strategic urban regeneration method that induces the consistent revitalization of existing urban districts from the selection of a project, to practicing urban design in local context and to aggressive planning and maintenance by municipal governments and different design techniques of the projects typology. Milwaukee is one of the first city controlled by the method of urban catalyst. In Milwaukee, there are detailed urban design guidelines for 13 Downtown catalytic projects based on publicity. and Milwaukee goes through citizen-involvement procedures to select an urban catalytic project in order to successfully carry out it. This is meaningful in that it made some suggestions on the methods of revitalizing existing urban districts which allow for not only the utilization of the features of the existing urban districts with high economic potential but also the effective resolution of problems of existing urban districts.
