Abstract |
In this study the effect of variation in the beam yield stress on the variation of the vertical deflection of a steel moment resisting frame during progressive collapse was investigated. The vertical deflections corresponding to the upper and lower bounds of beam yield stress were computed by pushdown analysis and were plotted on a tornado diagram to visualize the sensitivity of the beam yield stress. The plastic hinge formation of the model structure during progressive collapse caused by loss of a first story column was obtained using mean value of beam yield stress. According to the analysis results the rotations of plastic hinges somewhat correspond with deflection sensitivity of beam yield stress. It was also observed that the deflection sensitivity of beam yield stress is generally higher in lower stories. When catenary action in beams was considered the variation of vertical deflection caused by variation of beam yield stress turned out to decrease. |
