Abstract This study has the purpose to disclose the design concept and the planning methods of apartment complexes in 2000's. For this purpose, 32 districts and complexes were analyzed in total. The design concepts of apartment complexes were as follows: 'Nature'-realization of green residential complex by environment-friendly and natural-friendly planning; 'City'-connection with urban organizations by city harmonization and scenery-friendly planning; 'Human Being'-construction of open community by residence-friendly and human-friendly planning. For the complex planning methods, the environment-friendly plan has been expressed with the construction of axes by introducing of environment-friendly elements, the creation of eco-network, the water treatment plan, the afforestation of main buildings; the green architecture system, and the formation of biotope; the landscape plan has been classified into the landscape plan by districts, the landscape plan by types, the landscape plan by streets and the night landscape plan in order to harmonize the district and the complex in total while considering the surrounding condition, the topographic situation and the district characteristics; the community plan was composed of the creation of community clusters and community spaces in order to realize the open community of harmony and common prosperity and the formation of life street in order to create the lively street space.
