Abstract |
The large dormitory, that is, multipurpose life space currently existing in the temple is composed of diverse rooms such as sermon hall, Buddhist nunnery, warehouse, kitchen, auxiliary room, etc. Such dormitory has diverse functions in 1 building. As architectural style that did not exist even in the early period of Chosun, such dormitory appeared in the latter period of Chosun. Accepting the people of existing class since the latter period of Chosun, Buddhism showed changes in diverse places to accommodate many believers, one of which is large dormitory. This large dormitory was developed thanks to the reduction of outdoors rite(Providence rite exercised in the inner yard of temple), the development of the system to manage independent living mainly in the dormitory of temple and the mutual aid society in the temple. Further, it is divided into the style of confronting Buddhist altar instead of tower, placing in the position of left and right dormitory and the independent layout. |
