Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of branch-rotated T-joints with cold-formed square hollow structural sections under in-plane moment in Vierendeel Truss. The branch in T-joints is rotated by 45° with respect to its axis and welded to the upper flange of the chord. The main experimental parameters are the ratio of the width to the thickness of the chord (2γ) with 16.7≤2γ≤33.3 and the width ratio of the branch to the chord (β) with 0.40≤β≤0.71. A total of nine specimens were tested in joints under in-plane bending moment. Based on the results of the test, the in-plane moment strength for the branch-rotated T-joints is determined according to the bending deformation of the chord flange yielding, regardless of the width to the thickness of the chord and the width ratio of the branch to the chord. And also, the in-plane moment strength for the branch-rotated T-joints in the hollow structural sections was defined as 1.5 times the moment load at M1%B the strength of joints that governed the serviceability in control. Finally, From the experimental results obtained for branch-rotated T-joints, it is observed that the in-plane moment strength in the joint increased as 2γ decreased and β increased. |
