| Abstract |
The purpose of the study was to examine the characteristics of living and the preferred home environments according to socio-demographic variables, to verify the needs of Dual-Income housewives living in apartment complexes. This study is based on a comparative method using a questionnaire by more than 500 Dual-Income housewives living in apartment complexes. The results of the analysis are as follows: Dual-Income housewives have difficulties in everyday life, especially in housekeeping, childcare, and a lack of conversation with family members. According to the analysis on preferred home environments by socio-demographical variables, respondents preferred favorable environments for their children, and neighborhood living facility which could save their time in terms of locations, service times, and operating methods. Respondents’ preferences for community facilities of apartment complexes differed in childcare and educational facilities, and their needs for outdoor spaces of apartment complexes also differed in playgrounds for children, leisure spaces, and spaces for health. Their needs for housing services differed in support of household affairs and babysitting services. Respondents recognized kitchens as spaces gaining more importance, and the function of kitchens is changing from housekeeping to life support. The result of this analysis may be used as the basic information for the home environment planning program supporting Dual-Income families when apartment complexes are developed in the future. |
