Abstract ‘Sustainability’ is the motto of contemporary world. The notion is currently applied to various fields such as social science and management, but especially in architecture as in ‘sustainable architecture’ and ‘sustainable city’. ‘GBCC(Green Building Certification Criteria)’ system has been operated since 2002 in Korea. 70 constructed collective housing complexes are accumulated up to the end of 2008. There are 2 ranks for ‘GBCC’ system which are the best degree and the very best degree differentiated by the acquired points. In this study, 5 collective housing samples acquired the very best degree in ‘GBCC’ system are analyzed for the deduction of the sustainable design characteristics of domestic collective housing complexes and the aspects could be improved for better sustainable design.
