Abstract This study's aim is to find out some information on the transformation of art museum exhibition space. Previous research has classified exhibition space into two types. The first type is called exhibition space as it abandons traditional form and is exemplified in the exhibition space of the Pompidou center. Furthermore, this type is observed in ongoing projects including site-specific art based on natural environment and public art's utilization of urban space, as in the biennale, nomad-type exhibitions and the on-line cyber exhibition. The second type is exhibition space where of exhibition rooms are arranged in a row. Similarly, this second type is observed in traditional museum exhibition space, which is a feature of the 18c enlightenment era's emphasis on civic education. Also exhibition space has been utilized, and aims at correspondence with the surrounding environment of the old European cities as well as a reacquaintance with historicism. This study asks whether or not the and classifications of art museum exhibition space are valid and will freshly analyze the meanings of transformation including recent exhibition space planning.
