Abstract In recent years the study of thinking methods has become a major focus of architectural design research. Thinking methods has been widely recognized as phenomenon of problem solving in architectural design process. And the purpose of this paper is to explore differences how two architects individually analyse and treat an information-using-procedure and a knowledge-state- transformation, as well as effectively detect the search methods of problem space and understand the pattern of move to solve an architectural design problem through the experiment. PBG is commonly used to understand the whole sequential move in achieving a goal. Because PBG is concise expression of move of knowledge states. Nodes represent knowledge state and lines symbolize transformations in the graph. Datas collected from the experiment are analysed by PBG. And The results will help understand the pattern of moves, observe how a goal was achieved and detect how search methods were implemented.
