Abstract In early Choson dynasty, an effort for building national formality was carried out by constant research of an old system. An old system research was begin from The King Tae-Jong period. Especially, during The King Sae-Jong period, an abstruse researcch was carried around national academy and 『世宗實錄五禮儀』was compiled in result. After that, in 1474, the period of The King Seong-Jong, 『國朝五禮儀』which more developed was edited and in 1744, the period of The King Young-Jo, 『國朝續五禮儀』was published which added on 『國朝五禮儀』. Finally, in 1762, the period of The King Young-Jo, the research was completed by compilation of 『國朝喪禮補編』. These books are so valuable for understanding politics, society, culture of Choson dynasty including King's tombs in that period. Especially, through these books, we can find the relation between memorial services, a funeral ceremony and building of royal stone tomb.
