Abstract In this study, reinforced concrete (RC) frames with concrete block (CB) infill for school buildings, where CB infills are typically unreinforced, are experimentally and analytically investigated to develop pre- and post-earthquake seismic evaluation method. For this purpose, full-scale, single-story, one-bay specimens having different axial loads in RC columns are tested under cyclic loadings. During the tests, crack patterns and widths of RC columns and CB infills which may be of great significance for post-event damage assessment are carefully measured. In this paper, the residual crack width of RC column that can be quantitatively measured on damaged buildings is focused to estimate the residual deformation of frame, and the relationships between measured residual crack widths of RC columns and residual deformations of frames are experimentally and analytically studied using simplified models.
