Abstract |
This study is inquiry into the relations and the common characteristics between ecological architecture and eco-centric environmental philosophy by making a comparative research. It begins with the intention of seeking for the foundation of ecological architecture in philosophy. Its purpose is to scope on the origin and the context of ecological architecture as the demand of the times from before modernism; to understand the position of ecological philosophy as architectural philosophical concept. The time scope of the study is from modern to contemporary architecture, and they are selected and categorized by their design concept and architectural ideology behind them rather than formal characteristics of ecological architecture focused on ecological paradigm. Their programs include public, commercial, and cultural among others. The unique, analogous and correlational characteristics and expressional differences of each building are analyzed; their distinctive elements in terms of environmental philosophy and environmental aesthetic elements in terms of ecological architecture are derived; their inter-relations are analyzed and testified; and finally the unveiled common elements between contemporary ecological architecture and eco-centric thought have their own philosophical foundation which leads to the theoretical foundation of ecological architecture. |
