Abstract |
Non-seismic detailed RC buildings are common because the seismic design had not been applied to the buildings which are lower than 6 story until 2005. Especially, RC exterior joint is fragile because the beam bars are bent away and there are no shear reinforcements in joints. To develop a new economic rehabilitation method to enhance the deformation capacity, 2 specimens are designed which is scaled 70% of the prototype building and tested with displacement control until to reach 3.5% story drift. From the results, the non-seismic detailed specimen failed at 0.8% drift, which is far less than the recommendation value of FEMA 356; that is 2% drift ratio for life safety performance. But the other specimen, which is rehabilitated with pre-stressing with steel plate and bolt at the joint to prevent joint shear failure, shows a satisfactory deformation capacity. |
