Abstract This study examines interactive effects in roof stair hall design of high-rise apartment, and attempts to discover their influence on peoples' visual preferences. It's purpose is to increase competition of apartment design and to propose architectural standards on townscape design through designing the roof stair hall of high-rise apartment. The number of the high-rise apartment built in Teagu city is 1479 units. And 59 apartment complexes which have over 300 units were surveyed among high-rise apartment in Taegu city. The result of the analysis showed that the visual preferences for roof stair hall design is different between day and night, citizen and experts. In analyzing the visual preference for roof high-rise design between day and night, the highest preference is decorated flat roof design for night time and there is no different preferences for day time in roof stair hall design. The result of this study can be utilized in deciding which design elements of roof stair hall to consider in designing high-rise apartment on townscape for day and night time.
