Abstract |
It might be difficult to find from the final architectural design or project the schema which might explains various forms and origins of image. Architectural schema of an architect is somewhat vague and rough in its attributes, thus it shall be polished during design process and finally appears as a form though diverse processes. Accordingly, this study is intended to configure the process and system which develope vague architectural schema into a definite form. In particular, this study is intended to understand the architects' form creation process through analyzing a relationship between the processes of developing the schema into the definite architectural form and the architectural manipulation techniques during those processes. To further explore the formation, an abstraction ladder of Hayakawa to show how the abstraction is related into the substance, has been applied to verify the relationship between reality, schema and abstraction. Also, it is researched how parti, diagram and montage which many architects use during the design process are related into architectural schema. In particular, during the process of formation from schema, how schema is operated depending on an architect's depth of knowledge, will be explored through three steps; abstraction(reproduction), transformation and generation. The discovery and analysis of architectural schema in an architect's work play key roles in understanding an architect's idea regrading form creation process or thinking process. Design education through schema will set the guideline where the form or the design thought shall start at the beginning stage of design. |
