Abstract |
Building information modeling based quantity takeoff has been proved to be feasible in the construction industry through various research and pilot projects. However, all of them were limited to preliminary estimation, which does not take account on the detailed information on the interior part of a building but focuses on the structure and exterior part of a building. Quantity takeoff at the detailed level is essential but it takes a lot of time and efforts to model the interior part of a building. Particularly, our simulation results showed that modeling the interior part of a building could take up to 90% of the whole modeling time. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to improve the productivity of modeling the interior part of a building by automating the modeling process of interior parts. The process and methodology for automation of modeling a interior part was developed followed by verification and validation with a pilot projects. |
