The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of the main building of nineteen governmental middle schools from 1911 to 1924 with drawings of Joseon Government-General. First, on the ground plan, most of them were planned as the typical linear shape, and the same plan was adjusted in some main building. Most of them were built of wood, but three of them were built of brick. The space of them was enlarged with the increase of the classroom after 1920. Second, on the elevation plan, the typical plan with central upper pediment and narrow window were also used. Right&left-side pediments or the central tower were selectively adjusted. About materials for finish, feather boarding or feather boarding with mortar pasting were used before 1918, and projecting cornice between 1st floor and 2nd floor was used. But, after then, most main buildings were finished with mortar pasting. Third, the layout plan was decided to consider the main building's own direction and the relationship between the gate and the main building. It was examined that three types of the site plan -the accordance between two, the discordance and the main building far from the gate. |
