Abstract The relative importance that is possessed by gate-house in construction of a Buddhist temple during Joseon period can be said to be bigger compared to an interest in the meantime. It is the architecture that literally contains the countermeasure of a temple according to a change in the support class and to a socially sudden change in Buddhism of Joseon period. In Joseon period, the outdoor ritual of using a courtyard became a driving force of maintaining a temple. The architecture that is used most importantly at that time is just Sachalmunru(寺刹門樓: Buddhist temple gate-house). Sachalmunru is divided the architectural form depending on the location that a temple entered, on the appearance of being used for going in and out, and on the function as a gate-house. Classification in this form shows the trend of being changed even a form, too, as the function of a gate-house changes according to period. This change in Sachalmunru is the architecture that literally contains the dynamics of architecture in Buddhist temple of Joseon period.
