The purpose of this study is to develop the child-friendly planning guidelines for neighborhood environments in the residential community and to grasp importance of these planning guidelines. The planning guidelines can support children's life in neighborhood environments and promote children's development. For this, the content analysis and the small group workshop were progressed in advance. Through a preceding research, we elicited the planning guidelines that were shown in literature and reflected actual life. This study developed the 23 planning guidelines for neighborhood environments based on a preceding research. Also, the importance of the planning guidelines was evaluated through a survey research targeting children's parents. As a result, first, all the 23 planning guidelines for neighborhood environments were evaluated to be 'important,' thereby they were indicated to be valid as the planning guidelines for children. Second, as a result of comparing importance of the planning guidelines, the planning guidelines related to safety in the facilities that children use often were indicated to be very important. Third, there was the largest in the guidelines related to the facilities as for the spatial-planning elements. Also, it was indicated that there was the largest in the guidelines related to safety as for the important design element from the perspective of child development. Through this study, the basic planning guidelines were arranged in order to become neighborhood environments that children can make a living together. We expect that our neighborhood environments would become more comfortable to children by being added more diverse and systematic planning guidelines hereafter. |
