Abstract |
This paper aims to analyze the collaboration system of various actors of urban regeneration program in England, which is regarded as a leading country in governance, and to draw some suggestions for governance-based regeneration program in Korea. It investigates actors and their role in actual regeneration programs, and then, classifies them and diagrammatize their role and spatial scope of activity. Through case study of Tees Valley Single Program and Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Renewal Program, it identifies some basic factors which make English regeneration program successful with active participation of various local actors; the way of central government's subsidy aiming to foster the self-regulating ability of regions, the initiatives of local government in organizing local participation and governance, and the supportive activity of various public bodies. And it identifies the role of the institutions for urban design and architecture, such as Architecture Center, in the regeneration program as indirect and intermittent one. |
