Abstract Energy consumption reduction is becoming a urgent issue in Korea. Especally, energy supply in Korea definitely depends on import. Energy consumption in building is the most easiest method even if it takes relatively long time to get sufficient effects. In this paper, verification of the enegy reduction performance of the double window system was performed by Esp-r simulation. As a result, by substituting a conventional window system to the double window system, heating energy reduction is about 39% and cooling energy is increased about 6.5%. Additionally adopting shading system during may to octpber at the south double windows, cooling energy was reduced by 3%. This result reflects the realistic occupancy life pattern, and enen though shading device can reduce cooling load during the entire day, partial operation of cooling facilities in residential unit caused minimized energy consumption in cooling load. It is turned out that application of double window system can reduce about 24% of total energy consumption in a residential unit, including electrical equipment and domestic heating energy consumption.
